She let us know that the incisions have been made, and they are placing the screws on the pelvis, and they will secure the rods on his upper ribs with a Zimmer Clamp.
I would 'assume' the shoelace like material will loop around the rib, and then as the picture shows, the clamp will fixate to the rod. The rod will be secured by screws/clamps at the pelvis.
With this type of rod (of which, he will have one on either side of his spine), he will need lengthening surgeries periodically (likely once a year). We knew that going into the surgery, so we were prepared for that, depending on the type of rod they were going to use.
He is doing great, and all monitoring is going as best as it can.
