Isaac's Recovery - Day 1 Post Op

Well, we have made it to almost noon here on Day 2.  One night down, and 5 more  to go.  Here is a short update on Isaac's progress following his surgery.

The first night was a long one folks.  For Isaac, and for me (Ryan).  There were people in and out of Isaac's room all night long.  He had 2 different breathing treatments, he had x-rays, antibiotics, hourly temperature checks and every 90 minutes or so he would have to be turned from one side to the other.

Every time it seemed like he or I would get comfortable to get some sleep, someone else would be coming in the door.  Though, I will say, everyone last night was absolutely terrific.

Isaac initially had lost some feeling in his feet and fingers but that appears to be heading back to normal now.  He also had a very high fever for a short period of time last night (over 103) but that was brought under control very quickly as well.  All through the night we talked and he would make eye contact with me (as if he was just checking to be sure I was still sitting next to him, so sweet!).

This morning, all of his doctors made rounds and it has been determined he will be moved from the PICU to a general room for the remainder of his stay.  He has been able to get rid of his nasal cannula and his arterial line.  Both things were very annoying to him so I am very happy to see that he has been able to get a little more comfortable.

So, things are still going well and we are still on track to be able to leave on Monday.  Thanks again for everything and all the support and prayers, Isaac is one tough little man.

  1. Man I remember those tough nights in the PICU "sleeping" in the recliner at the bedside. Did you get a cool room with a zero privacy toilet? Those always made me chuckle. So glad Isaac is continuing to progress well. Here's to a more restful day (and night) for everyone!!

    1. Yes Jen, I did. I hope I didn't offend anyone when I left the door open and just grabbed my newspaper and used the toilet! :) "sleeping" is an awfully generous term.

The new room is fantastic though and hopefully in a couple of days everyone will be more comfortable.
