Our last couple of days at CMH, and our Journey Home!

The last couple of days at CMH (June 1st & 2nd) were quite eventful. The boys had hearing tests, each got a shot, car seat tests, and the list goes on. We'll share a few of the pictures from their adventures!

Eli's bedspace at Children's Mercy

Elias - sleeping through his carseat test (note, he was too tiny for his carseat, so here he is in the 'car bed' that they sent him home in! (June 1)

Isaac's bedspace at Children's Mercy

Isaac - sleeping through his carseat test (June 1)... I think we might have to teach these boys that in the future, they won't be allowed to sleep through tests!

We didn't take pictures of them getting their shots, or their hearing tests - we thought that wouldn't be very nice!

Before we were able to bring them home, we stayed the night with them on Tuesday night in what they call a 'Parent Care Unit' or PCU.  The PCU is essentially a hospital room that has a full sized bed, and room for the crib(s). There's a TV (although ancient), and a bathroom. They say it's kind of like a hotel room, but I'd have to argue that the last hotel room we stayed in had a king sized bed and a down comforter! I digress... anyway, I don't think there was much hope for us to get any sleep anyway! The reason for staying in the PCU is to ensure that the parents are able and feel comfortable taking care of their kids before they bring them home. Here are a few pictures from our time in the PCU:

Isaac getting his wagon ride! (Eli didn't get one... he had to be carried because he was so tiny!) - June 2

Ryan getting Isaac in the car! (June 2)

...And then we were on our way home! As Ryan was driving in the parking garage, he made the comment that he didn't feel that he should drive any faster than that going home (which was about 5mph). Upon further calculation, and realizing it would take us about 3 and a half hours to get home at that rate, he decided he would just drive the speed limit, very carefully! We then made it about half a mile, and I thought Eli was making funny noises, so Ryan pulled over the car so we could check on him. All was well. I am sure the boys were wondering when we would ever make it home at this rate! After that, we made it all of the way home, and have been trying to get some sleep ever since!

  4. Love the pics! You are lucky they have improved the carbeds. Theo's was absolutely huge and took up 3/4 of our car's backseat. He had to be put in a little outfit that was attached to the carbed as well, and he didn't like it at all!
